El Camino College student Dulce Ramirez Gomez is ready to transfer to UCLA this fall, but not until she completes a summer class or two at ECC. Dulce graduated from El Camino College last month and is enrolled in a summer session to get ahead on the fall semester at UCLA.

The eight-week summer session at El Camino College begins June 22 and the second six-week summer session begins July 7. Summer classes at ECC are a great way to make progress toward a college degree, and at only $46 per unit, students can benefit from considerable cost savings.

“I figured the more units I walk into UCLA with, the better it will be for me, especially when it is time to graduate – I will be ready and not scrambling for the units I need,” said Dulce, a sociology major who graduated from Hawthorne High School in 2012.

“I have to admit, it is summer and it’s sometimes hard to wake up in the morning, but it’s all about the big picture. Taking the summer courses will be worth it, and it will make a difference in the long run.”

To apply for summer classes at El Camino College or for more information on ECC summer sessions, see www.elcamino.edu/summer/.

In addition, high school students can get started on their college education at El Camino College this summer. Free summer classes are available to eligible high school juniors and seniors who want to earn college credits. Students must be California residents to be eligible for a fee waiver.

To participate, high school students must apply online atwww.elcamino.edu and submit a Concurrent Enrollment Application.

For more information on how to earn college credits while still enrolled in high school, go to: www.elcamino.edu/studentservices/highschool/.
